Pierre-Yves Monette

Professor of International Mediation at the College of Europe and Senior Expert of the UN Mediation Standby Team - Currently Mr. Monnette is serving as a mediation expert at the United Nations. Mr. Monette is the former Federal Ombudsman of Belgium (1996-2005), adviser to the Cabinet of King Albert II (1993) and of King Baudouin I (1991-1993) and Attorney at the Brussels’ Bar (1988-1991).

Mr. Monette has been visiting professor for international mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms (ADR) at the College of Europe since 2002. He is a registered mediator, and the author of several essays, books and articles on mediation as well as Belgian and EU politics. Mr. Monette is honorary member of the Belgian Royal Court and member of the Order of King Leopold II. He has wide-ranging international experience in Ombudsman affairs, human rights, Rule of Law and good governance with the European Union, the Council of Europe, the OIF (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie) and bilaterally. His postings included Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the FYROM, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Algeria, Burkina Faso, the DRC, Ethiopia, Mali, the Dominican Republic, as well as Lebanon.
